Kate Messner grew up in Medina, a small town in western New York. She received her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from Syracuse University and spent seven years as a television news producer and on-air reporter before returning to her family's passion of teaching. Kate has been teaching middle school English in Plattsburgh, New York, since 1996, and is a National Board Certified teacher.
Kate lives on Lake Champlain with her husband and two kids and loves spending time outside--cross-country skiing and skating in the winter, and hiking, swimming, biking, and kayaking in the summer.
